McDonald’s | História da Marca

McDonald’s é sinônimo de Fast Food. A maior rede deste tipo de alimentação é um dos maiores símbolos do capitalismo e do estilo de vida americano no mundo. Contestada? Odiada? Alvo de inúmeros protestos? Nada disso parece abalar o domínio desta marca no mundo. O McDonald’s pode até desaparecer algum dia, mas sua cultura está implantada para sempre.

História
A história da transformação do McDonald’s na maior rede de serviço rápido do mundo começou quando Ray Kroc, seu fundador, obteve a licença do método de preparo de hambúrgueres empregado pelos irmãos Richard e Maurice McDonald. Aos 52 anos, Ray Kroc, ex-caixeiro viajante e bem-sucedido representante de vendas de batedeiras para milk-shakes, ficou impressionado com a rapidez do serviço e resolveu propor um negócio. A história começou em 1954, quando Ray Kroc conheceu o restaurante dos irmãos Dick e Maurice McDonald, administrado com notável eficiência na cidade de San Bernardino, Califórnia. Esse restaurante foi fundado em 1948, quando os dois irmãos resolveram transformar seu Drive-In no primeiro McDonald’s, com cardápio limitado, Self-Service e Drive-In. As pessoas faziam fila para comprar um hambúrguer por 15 centavos ou uma porção de batatas fritas por 10 centavos. Kroc imaginou que se os McDonald abrissem mais 10 estabelecimentos, ele poderia vender 80 multimixers. Os irmãos já tinham vendido franquias, mas muitas não mantinham os padrões e prejudicavam a imagem do estabelecimento. Mesmo assim, Kroc convenceu-os a abrir novas lojas. Partiu para Chicago com uma planta do restaurante, uma receita para as batatas fritas e um contrato que lhe dava permissão para encontrar novos locais para as filiais. Uma das únicas exigências era a de que todos os restaurantes deveriam ter a aparência exata daquele de San Bernardino. Negócio fechado, em abril de 1954 o ex-representante comercial inaugurou seu primeiro restaurante em Des Plaines, no Estado de Illinois. A idéia era servir hambúrgueres de boa qualidade, com serviço rápido e cortês, em um ambiente totalmente limpo – conceitos até hoje ligados à marca. Começava naquele momento uma revolução na indústria e na história da alimentação mundial. Um ano depois, Ray Kroc já tinha montado uma cadeia com mais de 20 restaurantes espalhados pelo território norte-americano. Em 1958 completava a venda de mais de 100 milhões de hambúrgueres: o porte do negócio começava a ganhar expressão. No início dos anos 60, a dedicação de Kroc aos estabelecimentos era total, e logo se cansou da letargia dos irmãos McDonald. Com a ajuda de um investidor desembolsou US$ 2,7 milhões e comprou a parte dos irmãos McDonald’s no negócio. Nesta mesma década, os estabelecimentos ganharam lugares para se sentar, além da letra “M” em arco no seu logotipo (1962). No ano de 1964 foi introduzido o Filet-O-Fish, que depois viria a se chamar McFish.

Em 1967, com quase mil restaurantes funcionando nos Estados Unidos, o McDonald’s iniciava sua escalada internacional, abrindo uma loja no Canadá e outra em Porto Rico. Um ano depois a empresa lançou no mercado seu produto de maior sucesso, o Big Mac, responsável pelo grande reconhecimento da empresa nos dias de hoje. A década de 70 foi cheia de novidades e inovações. Começou com o lançamento do famoso slogan “You Deserve a Break Today” em 1971 e a introdução do Quarter Pounder (Quarteirão) em 1972. Depois, no ano de 1973 a empresa lançou o Egg Muffin, primeiro item do cardápio do café da manhã. O primeiro Drive-Thru foi aberto em 1975 na cidade Sierra Vista, estado do Arizona. Em 1977 foi criado no Canadá o McDia Feliz e dois anos depois ocorria o lançamento do Happy Meal (McLanche Feliz) voltado para o público infantil. Em 1978 os famosos Sundae foram introduzidos no mercado americano. Dois anos depois foi lançado o slogan “Nothing can do it like McDonald’s”. No ano de 1983 a empresa colocava no mercado os famosos Chicken McNuggets. Em 1986, a rede se tornou pioneira em divulgar a lista de ingredientes de seus produtos. No ano seguinte começou a vender saladas. No ano de 1993 começou a montar lojas dentro dos supermercados Wal-Mart e em 1996 abriu restaurante dentro dos parques temáticos da Disney. Nesta época o sucesso estava consolidado.

Big Mac, O Grande Campeão
Foi criado em 1968 por Jim Delligatti, um franqueado do McDonald’s da cidade de Pittsburgh. O famoso Jingle do Big Mac foi ao ar em 1974 e tornou-se uma das músicas mais cantadas em todo o mundo. A versão do jingle em português foi introduzida no Brasil em 1988.

  • Apesar dos pesares, eua té gosto do McDonalds. Lógicamente, devido ao preço, eu como lá uma ver por ano (e apenas quando eu estou com bastante dinheiro e sei que não vou sentir falta de uns 10 ou 15 reais).
    Convenhamos, apesar se não ser lá muito saudável e etc, a McDonalds ainda soube como conquistar o mundo e se tornar a empresa multi-milionária que é hoje.

  • É muito interessante… Entretanto não existe nenhuma informação sobre a tropicalização dos seus produtos… Pois é fato que a adaptação do alimentos e das quantidades de acordo com o pais que a franquia fora aberta…
    Se for possível complementar com essa informação acredito que seria completa. Pois a marca não vende hambúrgueres e sim o tipo de serviço de fast food… Em fim… Seu objetivos é aumentar a sua representação ao redor do mundo mantendo sua linha de qualidade. Portanto acho que a pesquisa do McDonald’s seja extremamente forte com os locais de abertura de suas franquias… Por esse motivo ela é a empresa multinacional tão bem sucedida que é hoje.
